Friendship Basket - We will be placing a box in the back of both churches to accept donations of non-perishable food items, paper goods and monetary gifts for a deserving parish family. When enough goods are collected, we will distribute the basket on a periodic on-going basis. For more information contact Diane (384-3311)!
LIVING FAITH

BLESSING OF CHILDRENth
For the past 23 years, parishes throughout the Diocese, in cooperation with the Pro-Life Office, have conducted a Blessing of Children (born or unborn) and their parents, in conjunction with the Feast of Holy Innocents. The ceremony is two-fold: to thank God for the gift of life manifested so beautifully in children, born and unborn, and to renew among people a deep respect for all human life. THIS BLESSING WILL TAKE PLACE DURING THIS WEEKEND'S MASSES!
PARISH RESOURCE CENTER
"The Social Concerns Committee is attempting to start a Resource Center which will make Christian/family literature and videos available to parishioners on a loan basis. We have a rather sparse supply of books at the present time, but we are hoping for donations from fellow parishioners. (Please leave donations in the box on the floor so they can be catalogued.
The bookshelves are located in the foyer of the downstairs chapel of Sacred Heart Church and will be open for borrowing from 8:00am until 12:00 noon every Sunday. Please use the sign-out book which is located on the shelves. The videos available are family oriented, but we ask all parents to determine what is appropriate for their individual child. Thank you!"

NATURAL FAMILY PLANNING
Natural Family Planning enables spouses to understand fertility and work with it, either to plan or space pregnancy. Modern NFP is very effective, costs next to nothing, has no side effects and is morally acceptable. Call the Office for Parish Life 207-2213 to let us know you are coming and for directions!
FOR LOCAL CONTACT, CALL ERIC & BERNADETTE JESPERSEN AT 788-4560!
LIFELINE
"Chastity is the joyous affirmation of someone who knows how to live self-giving, free from any form of self-centered slavery. This presupposes that the person has learnt how to accept other people, to relate with them, while respecting their dignity in diversity. The chaste person is not self-centered, not involved in selfish relationships with other people. Chastity makes the personality harmonious. It matures it and fills it with inner peace. This purity of mind and body helps develop true self-respect and at the same time makes one capable of respecting others, because it makes one see in them persons to reverence, insofar as they are created in the image of God and through grace are children of God, re-created by Christ!"

They helped with sorting and packing boxes/bags of donated food and also helped to carry food to client's cars. Some clients rely on canes and walkers, so this assistance was much appreciated. Youth group members and their parents who generously volunteered their time were Seth, Alissa & Tammy Platukis, Nicole & Annette Ambruch, Kayle & Stanley Kowalsky and Patrick Driscoll!

MARRIAGE PREPARATIONS
Couples contemplating marriage should make no arrangements prior to notifying their pastor. This should be done at least six (6) months before the date on which they wish to marry. Because marriage is a sacred and serious commitment, no couple can be suitably served by their pastor unless they begin their meetings with him at least two (2) months before the planned marriage.

DIOCESAN ANNUAL APPEAL
Here is an update on the 2011 Diocesan Annual Appeal in our parish. Each parish is asked to raise a target amount - essentially our parish "fair share" of the total Diocesan Appeal goal, which is $5,411,857.00. Our parish "fair share" goal is $12,110.00.
As of this week, a total of $7,520.00 has been raised in our parish from 106 families.
Bishop Joseph C. Bambera extends his sincere gratitude to everyone who has already made a pledge to the 2011 Diocesan Annual Appeal. Every gift truly matters. If you have not yet made your gift, and need a packet, pledge packets are available in the rear of the church. Packets are also available by calling the Diocesan Development Office at 207-2250 or online at www.DioceseofScranton.org!
SIGNATURES FROM 1936
Sheets, containing signatures of those who attended the Re-dedication Mass at St. Joseph's Church in Nuremberg on July 11th, 1936, were found in the cornerstone. If you are interested in these signatures, go to the home page on our parish web site - http://sacredheartandstjosephsparish.com/ and then click the bar two-thirds of the way down to get to the signature page. You can copy them or print them on legal size paper!
PARISH MISSION STATEMENT
"We, the People of God, under the combined patronage of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Saint Joseph, are called to be disciples of Jesus Christ. As members of the Body of Christ, gathering for worship around the Table of Word and Sacrament of the Eucharist, we commit ourselves to love and support one another in faith, hope and love. We are sent forth as apostles, in the power of the Holy Spirit, to make the Good News of Jesus Christ present and alive in our world through evangelization and hospitality, healing and service, education and the establishment of justice."
STAUFFER TRUST FUND
To inform anyone in our parish who may not already know, Claude Stauffer and his wife, Anna, when they passed away, set up a trust fund to be distributed on a monthly basis to the churches in our area, including Sacred Heart & St. Joseph's Parish. As a result, our parish has been receiving a generous donation from that fund on a monthly basis since January 2006. Let us offer our gratitude and prayers to Mr. & Mrs. Stauffer!
PARISH POSTCARDS
For those who are interested in sending postcards to your family and friends, there are parish postcards available at the entrances to the church. Help yourself!
MARY, FULL OF GRACE
Through Mary, you can draw closer to Jesus. Give glory to God by honoring Mary as the Mother of God. This is a new year full of grace to those who ask. Mary, the Mother of Jesus, was given the title "Full of Grace." She asks her children to pray the rosary. Invite Mary into your heart and home to pray the rosary with family and perhaps friends. She will make a difference in your life. "Where two or three are gathered in my name, there I will be with you."
The Pilgrim Statue sign-up sheet is posted in the back of the church. Make a difference and God bless you!
BLANK ENVELOPES AVAILABLE
There are blank envelopes in the rear of the church for any parishioners who have not received their collection envelopes or for anyone who would like to join our parish. If you use one of these envelopes, please write your name on it!
